SAGITTA is a low-cost (around 100 USD per unit), user-friendly, and reliable temperature–depth probe designed to expand ocean observations in regions with limited monitoring capacity. The device empowers not only scientists but also trained citizen scientists to support data collection, capacity development, and global ocean literacy.
Healthy oceans are essential for life on Earth, yet vast areas of our coasts and seas remain poorly observed. Traditional instruments are expensive and often inaccessible to communities and researchers in understudied regions.
SAGITTA bridges this gap with:
- Accuracy of ±0.1 °C and depth range up to 100 m.
- Tested and optimized for waterproofing and long-term use.
- Easy to use, affordable, and designed for both experts and citizen scientists.
Each SAGITTA probe is equipped with:
- Temperature and pressure sensors, battery, microSD storage, and real-time clock module.
- A smartphone app to operate the probe, calibrate sensors, and set recording intervals.
- Automatic data transfer to a secure web portal, where data can be stored, visualized, and shared.
